Looking beyond
the obvious.

To me, photography is the closest image one can preserve of a moment imagined just before it happens.

I know photographers are usually labelled as landscape, portrait or street photographers, among other things. Yet the point is that every photograph is made by a person.

In my view, a photograph does not need to be perfectly geometric or perfectly in focus. I feel the same about painting and architecture. What we call “perfect” — exact symmetry or colour contrast, for example — is only an addition to a photograph’s value. Its true value lies in what it contains.

What I see in it may differ from what you see. But its ability to raise questions matters just as much. A photograph need not be merely an image: it can ask us to look within it — to investigate, discover and hear its noise.
